Telemark opplevelser is situated in Rjukan Norway.
With a population close to 4000 it is a relatively small town.
Although it is small by numbers, this town has a big national and international history.
In the beginning of this century the town got its national fame due to the incredible waterfall “Rjukan fossen�.
It was not only the beauty of the waterfall that attracted, but also the enormous amount of energy that could be gained from the flow.
Rjukan, with Rjukan fossen in particular, became an interesting area for Norsk hydro.
It would not take long before a Power station was built.
In the beginning of this century it was difficult to transport electricity over a long distance, this means that factories had to get close to their energy source.
Rjukan transformed into an important economic town with approximately 9000 inhabitants.
During the Second World War, the occupiers saw Rjukan as an object with a high level of strategic value.
It was here that the Germans found their “heavy water�, a substance needed for the German atomic bomb project.
After smuggling the German plans into allied territory, a raid on the heavy water plant was planned and executed.
With allied equipment and Norwegian saboteurs this became one of the most daring saboteur actions during the Second World War.

After the war the industry in Rjukan is slowly disappearing.
Due to developments concerning the transport of energy, is it no longer necessary to locate factories close to the Power station.
This means, that after several years Rjukan transformed into a quiet town. 
Nowadays Rjukan is known for its suitable location for people who would like to enjoy the outdoors.
Situated close to the Hardangervidda plateau and the 1883-meter high Gaustatoppen, makes this former industrial town a magnet for national and international visitors.
Jon Haukåssveen a climber and outdoorsman by heart could not resist the attraction that Rjukan has on people that love the nature.
After settling down in 1990 he started concentrating with the realization of Telemark Opplevelser.
